The Outdoor Hour, Challenge 1

This is my first installment of a new series and Meme that our family is involved in.  You can check out more about the Outdoor Hour here.  This is Outdoor Hour Challenge #1.

There were just a few things we had to do.
  • Read the first 8 pages of Handbook of Nature Study, by Anna Comstock
  • Spend 10-15 minutes outside, we went into the field right next to our house
  • Pick 2 things to study further
We chose Canadian Goldenrod, which was really just changing into a dead looking weed right now.  The Handbook has a wonderful page on Goldenrod.  I loved how we were to see if the petals compared with daisies, as in a disk.

We also chose spider webs.  This one still had the dew from the morning on it.

Lord willing, we will be participating in a challenge every week with plans to pick up in January with the start of the Winter Outdoor Hour.  If you want to join in with us and add Nature Study with some accountability, let me know.  Click here to see the first challenge.  We may do two a week until January, since some of our other subjects are slower around Christmas.

Thanks to Kellie at Blue House Academy that introduced us to The Outdoor Hour!

  1. Welcome to the OHC! It looks like you are off to a great start and I love that you had two things to be interested in this week. I look forward to seeing your next entry and learn a little bit more about your area.
